With quarantine unfortunately becoming more popular than ever, boredom follows right after. Since I had fallen victim to the quarantine, I was trying to think of things to do. Then it hit me…upcycling! Here are some easy and affordable ways to upcycle and have a little quarantine craft day.
1 – Collaging

A personal favorite of mine is definitely collaging. All you need are a pair of scissors, glue, and some books or magazines to tear up. Get creative with it! Instead of throwing away those magazines, turn them into art.
2 – Dog toys out of old t-shirts

This idea was introduced to me last year during an information meeting about a club I was joining.
Any shirts you wanted to throw away or donate to Goodwill can be used for this activity. It might seem confusing, but I promise it’s an easy pattern to follow once you get the hang of it!
I’ll link a tutorial to this post for instructions on how to do this! Before the pandemic, the club I worked with was able to donate the dog toys to some local shelters in the area, but I do not know if shelters will be taking anything right now especially since these are made out of cloth. It wouldn’t hurt to contact shelters near you if this sounds interesting!
3 – Turn bottles/cans into flower pots

Being in quarantine can make your life feel dull, but with some green plants around the house it’ll brighten up the atmosphere.
I’m sure there are so many plastic bottles or metal cans stacking up in the garbage can. So grab those bottles, grab some paint (if you’re feeling fancy) and let’s get to crafting!
4 – Make paper beads for bracelets/necklaces

From personal experience, I can say that this unique idea brings a minor pop of color to your outfit! These bracelets can really tie together an outfit.
All of the supplies needed for this are simple things laying around the house like glue, a ruler, toothpicks, you name it. The only thing you might need to buy for this would be clear stretch yarn to put the beads on. Besides that, you’re on your way to making a cool bracelet/necklace!
5 – Finally, upcycled wind chimes

Okay, who doesn’t think that these are the cutest things ever!? If you’ve got some loose buttons or broken bracelets around, then this is the perfect craft for you. You can use a painted plastic bottle as the base, get some yarn and start stringing those beads! This is also a cute craft to do if you have little ones running around. The best part about this craft is that you can use anything you want.
(You might wanna wait until spring to hang this beauty outside unless you like the whole ‘frost’ look to it)
All of these crafts are so much fun to do. Most importantly, they help out our environment! Throwing away less plastic and clothing helps so these products won’t be sitting on a mountain and waiting decades to fully decompose into our earth.
Have fun crafting!
